Childline Zimbabwe – newest Member of LifeLine International
November 2023
We are delighted to announce that Childline Zimbabwe is the newest Member joining the LifeLine International family. With their impressive 25 years of experience and dedication to providing critical support to safeguard children, Childline Zimbabwe brings a wealth of knowledge and commitment to our global network.
Rati Moyo, the Director of Childline Zimbabwe, expressed what this Membership means to them.
“Being a member of Lifeline means that us, at Childline Zimbabwe, can increase our mental health psychosocial support and suicide prevention services. In the past couple of years, we have noted an increase in adolescent suicide as well as high incidence of substance abuse in young people. These and other social factors have increased vulnerability of our communities to suicide. We have had cases of suicide intention and our capacity to assist has been low given that we have limited capacity on suicide prevention. Our hope is that through this Membership, we will receive capacity development in suicide prevention and better serve our community.”
Childline Zimbabwe’s 25 years of service highlights the significance of child protection, safeguarding and crisis support services in Zimbabwe. They have been working alongside the Government of Zimbabwe, to stop child abuse and create a safe environment for all children. Their nationwide helpline, available 24 hours toll-free, is the only service of its kind dedicated to children in Zimbabwe.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Childline Zimbabwe answered around 509,000 calls in a year. But in 2020, as the pandemic brought new challenges, the number of calls answered doubled, and in 2022, they answered a remarkable 1,449,500 calls. This increase in demand for their helpline services highlights the crucial role they play in Zimbabwe”.
We extend a heartfelt welcome to Childline Zimbabwe as they join the LifeLine International network. Together, we look forward to strengthening child protection, offering critical support, and creating a safer, brighter future for children in Zimbabwe and across the globe.
